Ireland: Finance Bill provisions on capital allowances for intangibles
At the moment Ireland gives tax relief for know-how and scientific research. However, the new rules widen the scope of intangible assets to include brands and trademarks. Companies carrying out a trade will be able to claim a deduction for the capital costs of acquiring specified intangible assets. The tax deduction is available for offset against income from exploiting IP assets or from the sale of goods/services that derived most of their value from IP.

Non-tax: report on IP securitization
Interesting report on the use of IP as an asset class for fundraising or improving corporate security generally – all this ties back to, and facilitates, efficient planning for tax purposes as well. When you have a sound IP strategy, it makes managing tax very much easier to implement consistently to support the overall business objectives.

OFF-TOPIC: apology for silence
My apologies for the lack of recent updates on this site – time has been taken up with work etc as I transferred from being a solicitor to being a barrister. That has now all happened, and I am now a pupil barrister at Atlas Chambers – normal (or better) service should now resume herein.
